The FSA (Foundation Skills Assessment) occurs each year for Grades 4 & 7 students. This is an assessment produced by the Ministry of Education and provides a snapshot of student learning across the province. Students complete tasks of literacy and numeracy both online and paper-based. Individual student results will be sent home to families in April. The assessment runs from February 16 to March 12 this year. For more information about the FSA, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Our normal winter activities have been curtailed by Covid-19 this year. However, we are trying to bring some cheer and smiles to all faces with our “12 Days of Winter Cheer” dress up days. Starting on December 3rd, students and staff are encouraged to dress in the manner of our theme day. A list of all the days and themes are in the November Newsletter and also on the Calendar of this website.
We will also be having our annual Door Decorating extravaganza, in which each classroom is encouraged to decorate their classroom door. All decorations must be hand-made by students and connect to the class’ chosen theme. A selection of decorated door pictures will be posted on our school website for parents to view.
Help us bring smiles to faces by encouraging participation!
Halloween is fast approaching. Students are encouraged to wear their costumes to school on October 30th. Please ensure that replica weapons, like swords and guns, remain at home, as these are not permitted at school. We are asking students to bring a change of clothes for recess, so as to prevent soiling or damaging their costumes before the big day on Saturday. Candy should remain at home, as Ecole Hammond Bay follows the Ministry’s Healthy Food Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.
As of June 1, 2020, Ecole Hammond Bay is open for in-class instruction:
K-5 – 50% of students for 50% of the time (2 days per week)
Grade 6-7 – 50% of students for 20% of the time (1 day per week)
All classes K-5 have been divided into 2 groups Tuesday & Wednesday and Thursday & Friday. Grades 6-7 have been similarly divided and will attend on Tuesday or Thursday.
Due to the number of families who have indicated that they are returning for in-class instruction, we will be staggering morning entrance, recesses and dismissal times to ensure that we can offer enough space to our families to physical distance.
For families not returning, remote learning opportunities will continue to be provided by the classroom teachers.
For more information about the return to school during these COVID-19 times, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Year End Summative Written Reports will be sent home to families via email this Spring 2020. If you have recently changed your email address(es), please contact the school office as soon as possible at 250-758-5711.
